Elegant, complex and fruit driven (crystalline) wines are the hallmark of Migliarina Wines.

Carsten’s wines are individually hand crafted from some of the best vineyards in the Cape. Exceptional care is taken in preserving varietal and fruit character. Things are kept easy/straightforward/simple in the cellar – with minimum intervention – which is the basis for ensuring that the wines are fruit driven and elegant. The wines are suitable for Vegans.

Winemaking is a creative process, and having an established range of wines limits you in some aspects. I therefore try to make one new wine from a different varietal each year, allowing me the freedom to express my creativity.

Born in Namibia and raised in South-Africa, Carsten’s interest in all things wine started at the age of 14, when he attempted to ferment table grapes.

Pursuing his passion for wine, he spent 10 years in the catering industry as a sommelier, including at renowned restaurants such as Le Pont de la Tour in London and the Grande Roche in Paarl. He then earned his winemaking stripes as a contract winemaker in South Africa, Germany and Romania, before starting to make his own wine. His most interesting winemaking adventure took him to China, where he participated in the Ningxia Wine Challenge in 2015.

I did not study winemaking. I have been very fortunate to meet fantastic winemakers willing to share their knowledge, and I have been thrown in the deep end quite a few times. If you are passionate about what you do, and if you are willing to work hard, you can succeed in this industry.

Constant improvement in the vineyards, working together with the farmers/grape producers for a viable business relationship where everyone benefits.

Pushing the boundaries with the Creative range, trying different blends or working with unusual or different grape varieties and always trying to improve on the quality. I have reached a point in my life where I want to work with people, producers, suppliers and clients who have a similar life and business philosophy.
