THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Migliarina Wines was founded in 2002 when Carsten Migliarina produced his first wine under his own label. Starting small, the first production consisted of a Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz, both from Franschhoek. The Shiraz was matured in a friend’s garage.
I am often asked at tastings, “Where are you?”, in the context of “Where is your estate?”, my reply “Right in front of you”. I do not own a wine farm. I am not unhappy about this, as it allows me the freedom to source the best grapes from the best vineyards I can find.
The Migliarina Wines range has expanded considerably since the first production in 2002. Current cultivars include Albarino, Chenin Blanc, two Chardonnays, Grenache, Shiraz and a Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are sourced from around the Western Cape and the wine is produced at a boutique winery. The wines are currently exported to Namibia, Reunion, Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong and the USA. They are also sold locally in top restaurants and in specialised wine shops.
